Sebastian has started something new. Besides his normal smiley moods that he gets into during the day, occasionally when he’s sleeping he’ll start smiling and even giggling a little. Not real laughing, but more of a soft, cooing giggle that babies do before they can actually laugh.
Which leads me to wonder, what is he dreaming about? There are only a couple things that make him smile while he’s awake. Is he dreaming about those? Does he dream about Juli and I playing with him? Or is he dreaming about things that we adults can’t comprehend? Does he dream about his time in the womb when he was all floaty and bouncy and safe?
I remember when I was a little kid - 6 years old? younger? - and I used to have dreams that were vivid in either (or both) smell or touch. I would feel or smell all kinds of wonderous things that didn’t exist in reality. Entire dreams would be in different touches and smells. For years and years afterwards I would feel or smell something while I was awake and it would jar me back to a sensation that i experienced while dreaming all those years ago. Unfortunately, I haven’t experienced that recently, but the sudden recollections lasted into my adult life. I wonder if Sebastian’s dreams are a little like that.

No one will really care about this story.
Back in the day, when I was a skater, I used to skate with a guy named J. That period after the J was for the end of the sentance, not for the abbreviation of the name J. J was his name. No period. Just J. I can go on and on about this story or that story about J (ask him about Shanie, or how we were in the Closing Ceremonies of the 1996 Olympics together) and I can go on and on about all the businesses that we were going to start (e.g., online menu system back in 1996).
Well, J and I were both inline skaters. We skated mostly in Piedmont Park, but we often ventured around the city on our skates, especially the Monday and Wednesday night skates where we skated around Midtown, Downtown, Georgia Tech and other places around the city. I’m not sure where I’m going with, but I guess that point is that J is one of my closest friends even though I don’t see him very often (since Atlanta, he’s lived in Baltimore, San Francisco, Boston, and now Northern Virginia).
Sooooo….during our skate days we were going to start a t-shirt company geared towards skate punks and other ‘cool’ GenXers and GenWhy’ers. The name of the company was going to be Adrenaline. We sketched out ideas for t-shirts and logo ideas and everything we would need to start our company. Unfortunately, we were classic GenX slackers and never took the idea off the drawing board. Where am I going with this? One of our ideas was going to be to use the chemical designation of adrenaline for one of our t-shirts. Well, guess what came in the mail last week?

Yes, almost 15 years after we hatched the t-shirt idea, J designed and created the shirt for my son. One day, after J and/or I hit it big we can start up our t-shirt company. Maybe one day.

It happened! Sebastian now smiles when he’s happy. He smiles at me. He smiles at Juli. He’s crazy about smiling! So here are some photos of Sebastian showing off his gummy smile:

And here’s one photo of camouflaged Sebastian. Where did his body go? He’s a floating head with hands!

I apologize for not being as diligent at posting photos as I should have been. Updates in general have been a bit scarce. One photo that I’ve wanted to capture is Sebastian smiling. Yes! Sebastian is now smiling. And it’s not those smiles that are a result of farting or pooping (he’s always done those). Now he’s smiling at Juli and I in general when he’s happy (i.e., when he’s not farting or pooping). I’ll try and get some photos of the smile. Meanwhile, hopefully these will tide you over:

Just a quick note on the title change. I was never really very happy with “Quinn’s Inn” - it was more of a spur of the moment idea that I never got around to changing. This new title came to me the other day, so I decided to take the plunge and make the change. The new title has a double meaning. Bonus points to the person who gets both meanings.

One of the best things about having a kid is dressing him up in the clothes that you want him to wear. I really like Oilily clothes because of all the colors and patterns, but it’s easy to mix and match clothes to come up with a kick ass outfit. Check out our new favorite outfit for Sebastian - blue onigiri onesie, red & orange striped pants, and green argyle socks:

Isn’t it cute? In case you are wondering those are 2 onigiri (rice balls) on his onesie.
Sebastian has been doing a great job with his head and neck muscles lately. He have him doing several reps of 10 on the nautilus machine along with crunches and some work for his lats. You can see below how well he’s doing during belly-time:

And here’s one more pic just to show off how freakin’ cute he is:
