Sebastian's Quiver

our son, in words and pictures

J

No one will really care about this story.

Back in the day, when I was a skater, I used to skate with a guy named J.  That period after the J was for the end of the sentance, not for the abbreviation of the name J.  J was his name.  No period.  Just J.  I can go on and on about this story or that story about J (ask him about Shanie, or how we were in the Closing Ceremonies of the 1996 Olympics together) and I can go on and on about all the businesses that we were going to start (e.g., online menu system back in 1996).

Well, J and I were both inline skaters.  We skated mostly in Piedmont Park, but we often ventured around the city on our skates, especially the Monday and Wednesday night skates where we skated around Midtown, Downtown, Georgia Tech and other places around the city.  I’m not sure where I’m going with, but I guess that point is that J is one of my closest friends even though I don’t see him very often (since Atlanta, he’s lived in Baltimore, San Francisco, Boston, and now Northern Virginia).

Sooooo….during our skate days we were going to start a t-shirt company geared towards skate punks and other ‘cool’ GenXers and GenWhy’ers.  The name of the company was going to be Adrenaline.  We sketched out ideas for t-shirts and logo ideas and everything we would need to start our company.  Unfortunately, we were classic GenX slackers and never took the idea off the drawing board.  Where am I going with this?  One of our ideas was going to be to use the chemical designation of adrenaline for one of our t-shirts.  Well, guess what came in the mail last week?

Yes, almost 15 years after we hatched the t-shirt idea, J designed and created the shirt for my son.  One day, after J and/or I hit it big we can start up our t-shirt company.  Maybe one day.

I’m running a special on limited edition versions of that shirt…. signed, sealed, delivered for the low low price of whatever it costs me to sign, seal and deliver it. :-)

Brings back many, many memories. What I like about the story, more than anything, is the suggestion that you guys actually SKATED. What you meant to say was “went to piedmont park, sailed through the cones a few times just to give the girls something to peek at” and then sat your butts down :)

Well, at least J skated down from his apartment. Oh, wait, that’s right, he walked down the hill because he lugged that huge rail with him that we never used. And I drove from 8th Street to 12th Street. Then again, we did the occasional lap around the park. And we skated to Skate Escape for our Gatorade and Snickers.

We had to conserve our energy… we did like 12 shows a day for our adoring public! By the way, why didn’t we ever put out a hat to collect money. The we could have at least gotten our gatorades paid for.

That money I made for charging people to park on land that I didn’t own can only last a guy for so long! :-)

I held out a hat once a week – it was called an Unemployment Check.

I still remember that time we were skating downtown and we were at a stop light and I saw a Maserati at the same light. I forget who, but someone convinced me not to skitch on it even though I was jonesing for a good Maserati skitch. That think took off like a bat out of hell. At least I got to keep my fingers.

By the way, if I ever start a band I’m going to now call it “Maserati Skitch and the Nubby Mitts”.

Hmmm….the fabric thickness is only a 4 on a scale of 1-10. I’m not sure how I feel about that. Can you do a black shirt?

Nice band name. Will the band be more successful than BioHio? Hey, I just realized. BioHio. Bi-Ohio. Where the members from Ohio? And were they bi?
